All About Power Washing for Your Home: An Interview with Glen Bootay of Eastern Mobile Wash

By Glen Bootay

Tell us a little bit about your company and the services you offer.

Eastern Mobile Wash, LLC has been in business since 1993. We are located in Elizabethtown, PA servicing the south central PA market. We provide pressure washing services for commercial and residential customers. Our company washes truck fleets. We can wash just about anything on a residential property including swing sets, decks, tennis courts, roofs, concrete, driveways, etc. We can wash any commercial building exterior we can reach with a 125' lift, interior warehouse floors, rack systems, and interior walls, interior and exterior of dock doors, and small parking garages. We do offer masonry waterproofing/sealing for residential and commercial customers.

We also provide waste hauler support services to include container painting, container and toter pick-up and delivery, and toter washing. We are fully insured, licensed as a PA Home Contractor and provide free estimates.

What is power washing (or pressure washing), and where and how often should it be done?

Pressure washing by definition is the use of a high-pressure mechanical sprayer to remove loose paint, mold, dirt, dust, etc. Our employees are experienced in washing various surfaces using various chemicals, detergents, and varied pressures to get the desired result. Frequency of pressure washing depends on many factors.

What are the major parts of the home that should regularly get power washing?

When we give an estimate to wash a house, our typical service would include the entire exterior of the home, front porch, front walk, and the exterior of gutters and spouts. Anything else would be an add-on service. In many cases, we only wash the north sides of homes where mold and mildew grow faster.

What are the most common challenges that you face when on the job and what do you have to offer to solve them?

One advantage our company has is that our trucks carry 1,000 gallons of water, so we don't have to hook into a local water source. Most residential customers ask this question about not using their water. They also ask if any of the chemicals or detergents will harm their plants. The chemicals and detergents that we use are environmentally friendly in the quantities we typically use.

Is there anything that homeowners can do to help preserve their siding or stucco?

Regular cleaning is the best method to help preserve your home.

What advice would you give homeowners about roof cleaning?

Once you start noticing black streaks on the north side of your roof, call a professional to have it cleaned. This process has improved greatly over the last 10 years. We can simply apply a chemical to the roof and let the rain wash it off. The days of actually pressure washing roofs are over. If you let the roof get so bad that there is thick green moss on the roof, then it can be very expensive to clean.
