Home Inspections Importance with Ray Davis of Davis Home Inspection

By Ray Davis

Please tell us a little bit about your business.

I have a home inspection and environmental testing business. Which affords me the ability, due to my multiple certifications, to perform many inspection services. I am a nationally certified building scientist ( energy auditor), and Master Indoor Environmental Specialist, and a AHIT certified home inspector. The goal of my business is to educate homeowners about their homes and to help aid them in the process of staying healthy and live a abundantly comfortable life with the knowledge I provide to them.

Why do you believe it's important for homeowners to inspect their homes?

The importance of home inspections is to aid in the due diligence process of purchasing a home. Also to recognize the system breakdowns in a home which leads to problems that can otherwise be solved prior to large expensive repairs or illnesses. Most problems are avoidable through routine maintenance and knowledge of preventative measures.

How often do you think homeowners should inspect their homes?

It is very important for homeowners to routinely get their homes inspected every 2 years to spot light any issues and to recognize their significance in living in a healthy environment. That healthy environment can rid of so many underlying issues such as allergies, sickness, stress that can affect performance. The performance I am referring to is being more productive at work, for our children to be more attentive and receptive at school and the reduction in the spread of harmful illnesses.

What are the 3 problems that usually go unnoticed, that are a quick fix for homeowners?

3 problems that typically go unnoticed are proper drainage, proper ventilation, and changing air filters. Keep water away from the home or buildings foundation. Extend your downspouts, frequently clean the gutters. Routinely ventilate your home after cleaning to let the good air in and get the bad air and particulate out. Most of the dust in our homes are skins cells that are a form of food substance to dust mites, molds and harmful bacteria. By changing the air filter on your furnace to a HEPA 95 rated filter you can keep the life of your heating and cooling unit and reduce indoor airborne contaminants and costly energy bills dramatically. The HVAC system can stay more efficient and cost effective.

What is the best way for people to get in contact with you?

The best way to get in contact with me is to call me at 814 574 3391 or to email me at ray@redhomeinspection.com. I am always willing to help in any way I can. I frequently check my messages and mail box throughout the day. My follow up is typically within minutes of the call. If I don't answer, it is typically due to me respecting my customers time and attention during the inspection. I like to keep the focus on them and any questions or concerns they may have.
