The Belvedere Inn Serves Fine Dining Experience Housed in History

By Kelly Church

Located in the former mansion of John S. Rohrer, a tobacco plantation owner in the late 1800s, The Belvedere Inn serves American food in a fine-dining restaurant atmosphere in Lancaster, PA. With a full cocktail bar and live jazz music in the upstairs piano bar, owner Dean Oberholtzer said the old house still features some of its historic elements.

"The house still has a lot of the original features like the doors, woodwork, the grand staircase, and of course the Belvedere on the top of the building, which has a beautiful view of Lancaster City," Oberholtzer said.

The restaurant preserves the city's history, while also giving the community a top-notch dining experience that uses fresh, local produce as often as possible. Oberholtzer said some of his favorite menu items include the four-hour marsala braised short ribs, served with a three cheese macaroni and asparagus.

Also on The Belvedere Inn menu is a pan-seared mako shark entrée, served with whipped cheddar pumpkin mashed potatoes, pumpkin seed pesto and cider cinnamon braised local cabbage. On the dessert menu is a apple-pear bread pudding , triple chocolate pots du crème, pumpkin cheesecake and more.

Guests can enjoy specials during the week, including half-price mini kobe burgers as an appetizer every Monday at the bar; or $5 appetizers at the bar on Wednesdays; and gourmet pasta night on Thursdays.

Upstairs at the cocktail bar, called Crazy Shirley's, guests can enjoy a drink with live jazz on the weekends. Every Wednesday, the bar hosts karaoke from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the bar welcomes a DJ to play music for guests starting at 10:30 p.m., after live jazz ends.

Reservations are encouraged at The Belvedere Inn, especially during popular dining hours on weekdays and weekends. To see the full menu, visit belvederelancaster.com.
