The Party Express DJs Will Create An Event To Remember

By S. Mathur

Sean Shipper, Owner of the Party Express DJs in Reading, PA, always knew he wanted to be a DJ. In fact, he was saving money for the equipment even before he left school. It began with a love for the music, of course, but he was also fascinated by larger scale sound and lighting.

"My inspiration was my first middle school dance in 1994," he said. "I knew from that point forward, some day I would be a DJ. Before long I was shoveling snow and took on a newspaper route to save my money for equipment."

He began buying gear by mid 1997, and within a year, had enough for his first performance. By January of 1999, when he was still a high school junior, he performed for the district middle school. He started as sole proprietor in 2000 when starting at Penn State. Six years ago, the company became an LLC. Services include event planning as well as providing the DJs, music and lighting as well as light shows complete with fog machines.

The Party Express DJs can host all kinds of events, from weddings to proms to charity fundraisers. Shipper enjoys them all, but says that he finds weddings to be the most fulfilling.

"I enjoy every aspect of the process from initial interview of the couple, to learning about them and their dream wedding, then performing it and having a great time, to following up with them and hearing how happy they are," he said. "As times goes on, they may not remember my name or company, but they will always remember the great time they had and to me, that is priceless."

The Party Express DJs have won several awards, including the Couples' Choice award at Wedding Wire for every year since 2014. Excellent communications contribute to their popularity with clients, as does the personal touch which is maintained throughout. There is also a list of preferred vendors, including venues, photographers and videographers.

The kind of music Shippen likes to play gives people something to do and get involved.

"By that, I mean a sing along to a catchy chorus, have a cool riff that you can clap along to or have a line that makes you drop to the floor," he said. "These are just a few examples but these seem to get people moving and most importantly, having fun! I also enjoy old school throwbacks."
