What are some of the most popular outdoor hardscapes for Pennsylvania homes?

Outdoor kitchens, bars, fireplaces, and fire pits are a growing trend in Pennsylvania. A wide variety of new products are making it more affordable to have a quality outdoor living area installed by a professional.

What are the major factors to consider before deciding to get new hardscaping for your home?

Location and function. For example, there are hardscaping products that do not stand up to salt environments. These products should not be used for walkways that will be used in the winter months or around salt water pools. Style is a large part of the decision making process, but the style and texture of a paver have purpose as well. A rougher-textured paver is good around a pool to prevent slick conditions, but in the seating area of your patio, you may want a smoother paver so chairs slide in and out from a table with more ease.

What are the main benefits hardscaping can provide for homeowners?

One benefit is adding value to your property. It is like adding an addition on to your home. An area where you can gather for parties, entertain clients, or a place for your kids to hang out without getting the inside of your house dirty. Another benefit is durability and longevity. Quality paver products are very tough and most manufactures carry a warranty.

Is there anything about hardscapes that most people don't know that they should know?

Installing hardscapes is like constructing a building in the respect that the final product is only as good as process it was installed and the materials used. It is also not as expensive as some may think. With a wide veriety of products and a good designer, you can create a project to fit almost any budget.

Do you have any maintenance tips for newly installed hardscapes?

It is important to apply a good sealing product on your patio, bar/grill, and sitting wall caps. Most hardscaping products are porous they will soak up stains like red wine and steak juice, but the application of a sealer will help prevent this. Bottom line, protect your investment.
