Wild Sage Coffee & Kitchen is Warm and Bright

By Jake Levin

Hospitality is what Jessica Weixler and the rest of the team at Wild Sage Coffee & Kitchen lives by.

Weixler is the creative director at the restaurant in Reading, Pa., where the atmosphere is warm and bright. Weixler hopes that fact is communicated through every aspect of a customer's visit to the establishment, which opened last April.

"We want each person who comes here to feel taken care of and that special attention was given to them," Weixler said. "We also want you to have a chance to get away from it all and have a cozy eating experience that provides an opportunity to savor vibrant local flavors, to relax and enjoy."

Wild Sage Coffee & Kitchen was founded out of a love for food and community, and the experiences that bring those two together, according to Weixler. The menu is comprised of locally-grown, organic items using a farm-to-table approach. The menu also changes by the season.

The restaurant is a common destination for events that unite the community such as art shows, live music, food drives and fundraisers.

"Around the table, around food, everyone can come together on common ground," Weixler said. "We love the possibilities of relationship, kindness, and community that happen here."

The fall menu brings out Weixler's favorite item, which is the French Sage Butter Grain Bowl. Weixler is such a fan of the sage in the dish, in particular, that she wanted to incorporate it into the restaurant's name. The dish is made with a tri-color quinoa as the base before it's topped with local kale, farm-fresh eggs, shaved parmesan, house-browned butter with chili and the crispy sage.

Another popular fall dishes include the Fall Maple Bacon, which showcases apples from Weavers Orchard and Patterson Farms Maple Syrup, along with bacon, cheddar and turkey.

Private events are often held at Wild Sage Coffee & Kitchen, which are hosted by a skilled group of hosts and hostesses to assist with the comings and goings throughout the party. Custom catering options are available.

The front dining room contains a restored fireplace, exposed brick and renewed white oak floors that were all original to the building, Weixler said. It's all part of a unique aesthetic where patrons can truly appreciate the attention to detail within Wild Sage Coffee & Kitchen.

"All of the decor was carefully curated to reflect the history of the building, local products, and modern features in a pleasing ensemble," Weixler said. "It is an intimate, warm and inviting space that is a great place for a party or a private event."
