Your Long-Distance Move Made Easy: An Interview with Brant Billingsley of Leo Movers & Storage

By Brant Billingsley

Tell us a little bit about your company and the services you offer.

My company is Leo Movers & Storage. We have been providing moving services for 65 years. We offer both local and interstate moving services. We have a warehouse that provides both short-term and long-term storage. We provide full pack service if requested. We do both commercial and residential moves. We provide free estimates for your move.

Can you walk through a quick timeline for a long-distance move from the estimate to the final move?

Typically, I would set up a time to come out, do a survey of inventory that will be moved, and then provide a free estimate for the move itself. If you choose to book our service, we provide a contract and reserve the date you request. It's really as simple as that. Certainly if you have any questions or concerns, I do my best to educate our customers on the scope of the service and what to expect.

If you were moving, what would you look for in a potential moving company?

First, I would make sure that the company is fully licensed and insured. Moving companies in Pennsylvania are regulated by the Public Utility Commission. They should provide a PUC number that can be verified by the state as well as an insurance certificate. Secondly, ask for references. The majority of Leo Movers & Storage business comes from referrals so reputation is very important.

How accurate are the estimates for long-distance moves? What is guaranteed pricing?

Long distance estimates are different than local moves. We have tariff rates in place regulated by the government. Rates range depending on origin/destination and weight/size of the shipment. These rates are binding, and there are no hidden costs. Local moves are done on an hourly rate, which varies once again depending upon origin/destination, number of trucks, and manpower.

What type of insurance/guarantee do customers have that all of their belongings will arrive at their new home in the same condition as before?

Standard insurance is 60 cents per pound. This is once again regulated by the state. I always encourage homeowners to check and see if their homeowners insurance policy covers moving. If they need additional coverage, we provide additional insurance riders upon request and with varying amounts of coverage.

Do you have any advice to help people make their move as easy as possible?

The best advice I can give is be prepared. If the customer has everything in boxes and labeled, the move goes much quicker. Time is money, and the more prepared you are, the more money you save.

What's the best way for people to contact you and your company?
